Your Free, Open-Source Cust...

Your Free, Open-Source Customer-Relations-Management System for Media Companies Is Now Here: It's the latest go-ahead-and-take-it project hatched by the very interesting Campware. Also, because the developers include my buddy Doug Arellanes, and he's a Prince fanatic, the new system is called "Cream."

And no, I don't know what an "open source customer relations management system" is, but I figure some of you do. And as Doug says, "it's free as in free speech and free as in free beer."

Thanks for the plug. Here's what it does:

It's a series of databases for customers, products, suppliers, sales and deliveries. Remember how, at Prognosis, Ben would always talk about how he was going to create a comprehensive database for ads and subscriptions, but never got around to making it do everything 'coz he was to busy being a publisher?

There are a lot more people in this situation, and we're trying to help them out. So Cream manages all that stuff, which will hopefully mean that a lot of small, independent media around the world will be that much closer to profitability, or at least that much further from bankruptcy.

I can't believe you remember that, or realize how much this remains an absurd obsession of mine. Having just bought some development software to restart this agonizing process, I am delighted that y'all have beat me to the punch. I'm out of pocket until Monday but will be downloaing and installing Cream then.

To everyone else: I shit you not: This software is so important to the health of creative and sustainable media.
