"Three word chunks"? Like "fair and balanced"?

I think fisking should be rare, but well done.

The simple truth is that you're not the only one to have a nightmare experience with Earthlink. After about six months where my Earthlink DSL service performed about the same as my dial-up, I finally got out of my contract with them.

Bad product, terrible customer service, poor technical skills -> that's my experience with Earthlink.

Gee, you don't think the whole "Fuck you, I've got mine" school of $cientology thought has permeated the help lines, do you? Naaah.

Earthlink... My experience goes back a while, is about dial-up, and is probably why a disclaimer is now prominent on ISP sign-up documentation.

I got an Earthlink account, and was given an access number in the next town. Not bad. Until I got the bill - $1523 for a bit less than one month! Seems that one town away or not, no dialing prefix or not, that was a long-distance number.

I called the three (!!) companies involved, told them I wouldn't pay, that if they tried to collect I'd sue them for bait-and-switch, yadda yadda: none actually went so far as to apologise, but the bill was dropped.

I've since moved, but the phone company here also allows some types of long-distance calls (same area code) to be dialled without a prefix: as soon as I realised that, I had them take that "option" off my line.
