Team Caribbean: The Expos won the opening game in their new home away from home, San Juan, Puerto Rico, by a score of 10-0. Puerto Rican Jose Vidro, one of the most underrated players in the game, went three for four, with a double, home run, and three RBIs.

"It was nice that my mother got to see me play and having my family here," said Vidro. "I was going around second base and I almost had tears in my eyes.

"It was really special."

As I mentioned before the season, the Expos are stocked with talent from the baseball-rich Caribbean basin, and are probably the best longshot pick to win the 2003 World Series. This will be the best ongoing story of the baseball season.

Any word on the attendance?

About 20,000 ...

Matt, I thought the Padres were you longshot to win the Series ... the Angels of 2003, or something like that ...

I ended up opting for the Expos over the Pads, after Nevin got hurt. They still might contend for the division, if Frisco ever comes down to earth.

Yeah yeah, and if my Mets weren't on the donut end of that Vidro-fest, I'd be saying "great for Puerto Rico" etc.

It's gonna be another long year.

MoronWatch -- Can't say I miss watching Mo Vaughn play defense every day, or sprint down the first base line on a ground-out to right field....

Vaughn has all the footspeed of a dugong. And a coupla years ago they set the record for least errors (Olerud/Alfonzo/Ordonez/Ventura) and now they cover the infield like those are grenades being put into play. Aaahhh...
