was not undertaken in the South), the failure to discusss the role of UN Committee 661, and whatnot, but the end result is an article that attacks the loony left without taking much consideration for position by its serious advocates. The cursory disregard might be a bit of a put off for some folks. All in all, since you don't pull back from making snide comments with regard to the hawks either, the article reads like somebody more concerned about appearing centrist than objective, at least to progressives and the like.

Either way that article had a lot of merit, as does most of your work, but the long and short of it is that a liberal who starts referring to the loony left as loony is bound to be embraced by conservatives more readily than other liberals - take a conservative who starts attacking the evangelical and neo-conservative right as loony and you're likely to find much the same situation: Justin Raimondo would probably be a good example.

I don't agree with people submitting you to a litmus test for publication, and I think Tomasky's argument that the left needs to be less "reasonable" is weak garbage, not least because there are other solutions to leftist criticisms of the media. At the same time I don't have trouble understanding why you're subjected to some kind of litmus test, people don't go looking for insults. It's not reasonable to ask you to persue the kind of bonedry reporting that would make you more palatable but less entertaining, but being a middle class white loony myself I think a lot of your political commentary is facile and straw man and I don't have a hard time understanding why you get a better response elsewhere. That shouldn't detract from your ability to raise important questions, but you might try your hand at a more diplomatic style for left publications.

And the article on Patriot II suggests, if nothing else, that when you stick to an actual centrist issue like civil liberties you don't have problems with leftist intolerance.

Not only is your posting great Matt, but look, you attracted a perfect example of your point above.
