Have You Heard the One Abou...

Have You Heard the One About Depleted Uranium? If you've dealt overmuch in Iraq-sanctions literature, you probably have heard about the horrid after-effects of American depleted uranium on the Gulf War I battlefields. Being a D-minus chemistry student myself, I never knew what to make of it, but this quote-rich Reason column by Ronald Bailey argues persuasively that the rumor is largely a myth.

I've had a box of depleted uranium sitting in the bottom drawer of my desk for 8 months now. No negative effects as of yet, unless it affects the brain, but I think that damage was done well before my encounter with the stuff.

The best evidence that depleted uranium is safe is that the Iraqi Minister of Information was complaining earlier today that it was dangerous.

I'd find the author more persuasive if he hadn't written a book about global warming being a myth.
