New National Post Column From Me: "Operation 'Finish the Job' defies prediction: Despite 12 years of hindsight, the consequences of war are anyone's guess." Thoughts about the unpredictability of war, and how different the world is in 2003. More stuff from the James Baker book.

I've warblogged it ... http://blogs.insidevc.com/0000008/ ... I love this sentence ... "Isolationism, traditionally a thick strain in domestic politics, has now been marginalized into a fringe superstition ... "

Bush the elder, has this to say:

Is the president taking care of something that should have been taken care of on your watch?

Of course, thats the question that irritates me the most, because the mission was not to kill Saddam Hussein; the mission wasnt to occupy Baghdad back then.

Did you think that pressure from inside would make Saddam fall in the first gulf war?

Absolutely. I thought hed be dead, and so did every single Arab leader, every leader in the Gulf felt hed be gone. And Mubarak felt hed be gone, the Brits, the French, everyone. So I miscalculated there, yes, but getting rid of him still wasnt the objective.
