Stupid Technical Question o...

Stupid Technical Question of the Day: I haven't been able to open up the L.A. Weekly website for nearly four weeks now. It just loads and loads, and never opens. Do any of you have similar problems? Does my computer = crazy? Have they blocked me, so I won't make any more cruel comments about Harold Meyerson? Please advise.

Hey, Matt. Could be a couple of things. Since they added the Flash navigation on their index page, there's a slew of Javascript in there to make sure certain browsers get fed the right content and to offer up that obnoxious "subscribe to our newsletter" pop-up. If you have Javascript turned off in your browser preferences, the page may not load at all. If you don't get the pop-up, then you're Javascript is definitely turned off.
Otherwise, if some but not all of the page is loading, you may want to upgrade your Flash plug-in to version 6.

Thanks, Eric! Shouldn't we be sleeping off the wine, or cheesecakes, or something?

Matt, it's slow for me, and I'm on DSL. Like Eric said, it's the Flash. Once you're off dial up, it should go better for you.

WFM. Mozilla 1.0.2 Win 98se. your mileage may vary. What browser, OS etc.? try a general cleanup and reinstall. cache files, cookies etc. if you are using IE there a lot of hidden files. Try Netscape 7.02 now available.

More and more websites won't let you on if you have "pop up protection". In other words, either take the pop ups that you never ready anyway or stay away.

I had to dump mine that worked great because I could no longer get on to lots of sites.

Worked OK for my DSL, but please, fix the Catherine Seipp permalink at LAX.
