Well I liked the speech. My favorite part was when the President said, "The course of this nation does not depend on the decisions of others." It couldn't have been more clear to whom he was directing that comment than if he had said it in French and repeated it in German.

Music to these ears, anyway.

Thank God we're finally throwing of these damn shackles France and Germany have bound us with lo these many years.

C'mon, Lawrence, Matt's the only American I know who bows to the whim of the French.

Was I the only person in America that reacted to his compassionate attack on trial lawyers? What business is it of the federal government to limit the rights of citizens to sue in state courts doctors who are licensed by the states? Sort of sounded like pandering to me. And while I'm deeply moved by his compassionate desire to help those poor Africans who are dying of AIDS, how does that have anything to do with the state of OUR union? I may be with him about the need to be proactive in dealing with the threats of Saddam Hussein, but he sure did lose me on his domestic agenda. Does he even have a clue as to how much a BILLION dollars is? For the sake of my many friends who are unemployed, I hope he has more success in turning the economy around than what I presently expect from him.

I was referring to France and Germany's determined attempt to dictate US policy on Iraq via the UNSC.

I thought that was obvious, but maybe not.
