Tomorrow's Bait-and-Switch?...

Tomorrow's Bait-and-Switch?: Driving around in the diseased old Toyota tonight, we were talking about what Bush might do in the State of the Union. I argued my going theory, about how the administration has fine-tuned the tactic of making crazy-sounding unilateralist threats, driving its political opponents (Democrats, the U.N., France) to squeal about being ignored, and then sn the Gulf War, after months of French oppositionalism.

Ever since Bush arrived on the National Scene he has displayed the same tactic. A fight develops, he lies in the weeds gathering whatever it is he needs and lets his opponent attack, and attack, and attack again til it seems he has no defense, backbone, or smarts. THEN--whammo--slammo---bitch slap---He just unloads. He let McCain blow his doors off til SC, he's done the same since he's been in office and the Dems seem stupified every time it happens to them. He is Lucy to their Charley Brown, suckered every time into kicking at the football.

He will have the goods on Iraq. He had the goods when he agreed to go to the UN or he'd never have gone there. Once again everyone opposed will look like fools, but they will line up to kick the football again once he tees it up. That is the Left's job right now. They do it perfectly.

I'm laughing at the "pundits" tonight who claim he has no real plans for the programs he sponsored last night. He's too dumb. Same old game, same old fools. He's got the plans. You can count on it. He's the best counter puncher ever.

George Bush! What a fucking moron, no?

It looks now like Bush will "compromise": the French, Russians, and Chinese will get one more resolution with one more "final" chance in it, but in exchange, there will be a date in it. 'Saddam must comply fully by March 15th, and if he doesn't, the Security Council authorizes the members of the UN to disarm him by any means necessary' or some such.

In short, another Bush victory. "God protects fools, drunks, and the United States," and Bush is arguably all three, so he gets triple protection? I'm running out of ways to explain this guy's success.

icted on their own people and ours, more than on the predictable squawkings from our democratic allies.

That said, my hunch is that when the shooting starts, there will be French troops, as there was in the Gulf War, after months of French oppositionalism.
