Meciar Unlikely to Regain P...

Meciar Unlikely to Regain Power, Says NYT: Today's Slovakia story brought to you by my ex-UPI colleague Peter Green. This election is actually pretty interesting, I think, because NATO, the EU and the U.S. have all interfered quite openly with its)">

tunately for him it had been captured on film. I don't know if this would hurt his ratings in Slovakia, but it can't help his international rep (such as it is).

Here's a link to the Wyborcza on-line version (sans pictures) for those that can read Polish.,34251,1016142.html
I couldn't find any reference to the incident in a quick run thru of on-line Slovak papers (well two, and my Slovak is basically non-existant).

Matt, by saying in one sentence . . . "I hope the jerk gets hammered . . . . but I worry about outside interference . . ."

you have given me a good laugh. Certainly you have more important things to worry about, particularly ones that do not involve twisting yourself into knots?

RB -- Ain't no knot. I'm just a lone Californian, typing opinionated nonsense on a website. The major Western powers have all led a concerted campaign to tell Slovaks that there will be specific dire consequences if they elect this one human. Leaning so heavily on an insecure, 5-million-population country that's only a decade old & eternally paranoid about what the outside world thinks of it ... well, that seems to me an inappropriate usage of state power. It would be better to describe the specific *policies* that are pre-conditions from joining any supranational clubs; this is what they would do in the past, but they are clearly frustrated at the persistent spell Meciar has cast upon Slovak voters since 1989 (think Papandreou [sic] in Greece).

Michael -- Co tady robis a Polski, camarad? Whoops! I mean, what are you doing there, and can't you slog your way through Slovak by now?

Who does Meciar think he is, Buzz Aldrin?

Goofy thing about the "there will be dire consequences" comments is that they usually backfire.
