ory': Warning -- this link is for baseball-analysis geeks only. It's just so rare to have anyone write something semi-positive about my team, I'm compelled to give a link.

Matt, my team -- as a life long fan -- is the Padres.

But when I grew up in the '70s, the A's were a dynasty. I've never stopped being an A's fan at some level. Over the last few years, and especially this season, that bond has been growing.

I gotta tell you, with the A's pitching and better second-half offense, I think the A's are going to be tough to beat. I think they've got a crack at first and may win those 95 to 98 games, given that strong pitching in the final weeks of the season usually pays off.

Hi Howard ... when are we gonna get that beer?

As this article scratches at, the Angels are hard to explain this year. I think we have a better back end of the rotation, and Glaus could still get hot ... but the A's front-line pitching looks better, it's back-line (i.e., Cory Lidle) usually has monstrous second-halfs, and they somehow acquired an All-star second-baseman without anyone really noticing. I'm worried about Dye getting hot. Still, the boys have a nice work ethic, and Garrett Anderson hits a double every time he walks to the plate.

You really ought to come down for an A's game next time they come to town. Amtrak stops in the Edison Field parking lot, and my Dad has season tickets....

Matt, I'll be in San Diego just before Oak. comes to town. Returning to VTA on the 9th (first game of the series). If can I figure out what do with my wife during that time, a stop at the Big A on the way home might be fun. Your dad wouldn't happen to have three seats, would he? Other option is extend my vaca by a day and then take the train back to Anaheim on the 10th -- I wonder if trains run that late coming back though?
