Cassidy gives me another reason to feel good about canceling my Merc News subscription 5 or 6 years ago. And gives me reason to ask again, why doesn't a major metro area like the Bay Area have even one good newspaper?

I've spent enough times on message boards of one sort of another to realize how handy the Argument From Feigned Incomprehension can be, but I've gotta say that anyone who claims not to know what a "real name" is is stretching it way beyond the breaking point.

I know Mike Cassidy from my days on the Mercury News. In fact, I still see him at the Y from time to time. He's a good guy and usually a good writer. He just blew it on this one.

I e-mailed him with a list of non-personal blogs to check out, including mine. He promised to take a look. Will he run a new piece on the blog world that he missed? Well, he won't do it with blogspeed. He'll have to figure out an angle and sell his editors, who will say: You just had a blog story the other day. It's been done.

A technology writer that admits he waits for everyone else. Thanks for saving my a bunch of time reading any future articles with the name Mike Cassidy attached.
Sorry Joann, he may be a nice guy, but as someone who needs the best info on the latest tech, I have to take his advice and ignore him.

Cassidy's not a tech writer. He's a "culture" writer. A po' man's Po Bronson, if you will.
